I started this whole thing in 2024 with some approximation of marquetry, and gradually worked my way out of the frame and off the backing. This was to rehab myself after years in the corporate machine; I was tired of everything having a dollar value and wanted to do something that most certainly was not about money.
I think I crammed a fair bit of style variation into a year while methodically teaching myself about the wood; a month just following the grain under magnification, etc. I intentionally didn't learn any techniques; I didn't want the limitation of a crutch, with the hope being that I figure out my own ways using modern tools, and then *continue figuring out* what can be done with current (wood and epoxy!) technology.
The 10 years before this was building one of the world's first AI-focused recruitment companies, trying to have a positive impact in what is an irreversible turning point in human history. Your guess is as good as mine as to how that went.
For anyone starting out: low-hanging fruit is a great way to get on the tree. Make those computer game and anime characters.
