happy

Our fetishisation of happiness is almost as harmful as our obsession with productivity.

What is happiness?

I spent my life getting the thrills and the spills; they scratched the itch for a while but were not happiness. They made the void bigger.

The only thing that can fill the void is the universe. That sounds like new age shit so let me elaborate.

The void is filled when we are in flow. Flow is when our memory is full front-to-back with something pleasant.

input -> processing -> output

Let’s view it as wind through a canyon on the planet of your self. This canyon run is your personage, shaped through a lifetime of experience. Wind comes in, and the direction it takes varies wildly from person to person. The same wind becomes different wind because of the person.

So while we are being told that a Ferrari will fill the void… well... it might. But only while you’re actually driving it and engaging with it. Merely 'possessing' something or someone will never fill the void because the void is a moving target and needs movement to fill it.

Then there's the possibility that someone's emotional weather was so messed up that their rage is the same as your joy. What are the implications of that on morality? They were born to and borne of an unpleasant situation; are they just another domino?

Anyway happiness is a bullshit word because it is inherently impossible to define. Find your shine. YOLO, motherfucker.
