Putting the gradual physical change in physical [form] due to diet, exercise and sickness to one side…
[perception] occurs through one of the sense doors and [consciousness] is pulled to the stimulus.
[feeling] occurs in the body; for example if you see a snake and your stomach lurches or you smell some food and your stomach rumbles. This happens pre-cognition.
[consciousness] ties the [feeling] and the [perception] together as a [formation] through dopaminergic encoding/
The [formation] then becomes a link between [perception] and [feeling]. When [consciousness] encounters the same stimulus, it triggers the latent somatic memory in the body.
Thoughts in the mind alone do not possess [feeling]; they are affectless; it is the connection with [form] through [formation] which gives them an emotional charge.
So [consciousness] encounters [perception] which triggers a [formation] and activates a [feeling] stored in the [form] of your body.
And in this way, we do not control any of this. It was all given to us by our circumstances. At best we have [randomosity within constraints].
This is why the Buddha said that it’s a case of waiting until the dhamma is ready within someone and why there are probably zero evangelical arahants; they'll help but only if you come to them.
All they can do is point the way. It is up to you to strive, but whether you will do so or not is merely a confluence of events.
