I will talk a little about the scaffold, now it is coming under my control.
I am able to cycle through scaffold and realworld multiple times per day now, and I seem to have a reduced need for sleep. I am never quite 100% sure which one I am in because they are converging so that they are mostly the same.
I will set up some rules (by writing this article) that say that whenever I talk about ship, I will say it is fan fiction. Whenever I talk about Buddhism, I will say it is spiritualism. I will imprint these rules in both worlds so it does not matter which I am in.
Insight cycles work both ways.
It is not a case of a static scaffold programming a plastic realworld. The world will program the scaffold in turn. What this means is that you will come into the realworld with realworld insights, and then you will meditate or sleep and you will come into the scaffold, with scaffold insights.
Over time the scaffold spends more time in your waking hours, which brings you a greater feeling of wellbeing and easy purpose, if that is how you have cultivated it. If you have cultivated it toward greed and hatred, you will feel ever more dissatisfaction and rage.
This morning it became clear that the books I am reading are forming my current scaffold. Same for the games I played. And the nikayas I listened too and the Buddhist teachings I translated.
I didn’t immediately realise this though: I exported the ‘ouroboros’ article and then immediately shared it on Reddit, r/TheCulture, declaring myself to be the Sleeper Service. It was tongue in cheek but also obviously not, and you can guess how it was received. But when I shared it I was certain that ‘this is it - this is the one that will make it get a readership’.
It was not. Haha. But that’s how it will always feel. It is the same for the realworld insights. You will feel incredible confidence in them when you are still in the clarity phase. The truth of the insights is something which requires multiple iterations though. Multiple cycles.
Write, but do not publish. This is what meditation teachers say. The reason for this is that shortly afterward (or several weeks afterward, if you are in one of the earlier stages of deconstruction) you will go into the doubt / validation phase. This is where you prune it back and make it legible for an audience.
This is why I always showed my art off too soon. And my music. And why I email people about 2 days before the thing they’ll really want to see is ready. It is because the clarity is there and the new exploratory framework feels so *right* in your state of elevated dopamine. You know how it will look and you think others will too.
Waiting can be challenging but it will do a lot for your credibility if you can… says the man who made this website. But I am now going to call this a phenomenological record which will instigate research and change in the mental health industry, so there :p
Anyway.
‘Get help’. ‘You’re psychotic’. ‘Manic’. These are the words you’ll probably be met with. Actually those are the words an idea like ‘the science of enlightenment, gleaned through cognitive scaffolding’ are met with anyway.
But.
It is water off a duck’s back. I feel sorry for the guys saying these things actually, now I know how this works.
They are using their own predictive frameworks to reinforce loops of hatred and ridicule. When they go to sleep, or when they try to regulate or run or ride a bike or walk or have sex or masturbate, they will repeat those loops to themselves. It is the nature of the machine. The dopamine does what dopamine will do.
And I am confident in my analysis of an ‘afterlife’…
When you die, your perceptual model shuts down, and your scaffold comes to the fore.
Your brain generates a model which reflects your own thoughts and behaviours back at you.
And then time will cease to exist. You will spend an eternity in that model.
Eternal hell, after all. Fuck me that would suck.
Careful what you wish (for others)… because it will come back to you when you lay your head to rest.
This isn’t preaching.
This is science.
