‘Fighting with them is what makes you sick’.
This is another phrase that was repeated and has stuck. This certainly seems to be the case for me.
Anger and hate and jealousy; they are all contagions for our churn memory / karma. It goes in and we forget about it, but six months down the line it has been integrated into our world view.
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Surround yourself with angry bigots and you will become an angry bigot.
My mistake was trying to help these people. You can’t. They have to help themselves. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t force it to drink, and fighting a pig in the mud is useless because they’re having a great time. It just made me sick instead.
So walk away.
Bleeding the contagion is harder. I’m still trying to figure out reliable ways to do so.
Meditation is one thing, and can alleviate the symptoms, but I feel like it rarely gets deep enough to actually kill the contagion in real time. Meditation can be useful for ‘curing’ a cmem which has been infected, but it is not immunity when people are actively throwing crap in your face.
So these contagions; we all seem to have immunity to one or another. I am quite immune to logical freezing and panic so if someone has a contagion of ‘logic overload’, I can probably fix it for them.
My weakness is anger. I have a strong sense of justice and I find anger at perceived injustice incredibly difficult to let go of. But my wife - she has greater immunity. She is not totally immune, but she is close enough to me on the empathy spectrum for me to feel like she really understands, yet far enough away to not be totally overwhelmed by anger; so long as I don’t flood her all at once.
It’s gigo. Garbage in garbage out. If you eat junk every day your body will become sick. If you surround yourself with poisonous people, your mind will become sick. It’s that simple.
But if you’re going to step back and try to recover, you need to have an active meditation which will help occupy your dopamine system so that your churn memory can spool off. If you do not have this meditation (which can be as simple as walking) then your dopamine system will latch onto the mental object of [anger] and the churn will speed up and up and up and you will find yourself trapped inside your own poisoned mind.
I have been there many times and will not go there again. No more poison in my ear.
