We simulate our world based on 0.0005% of our sense data and a lifetime of algorithms installed through chance and reinforcement.
As users of the sim we can identify problems but are unable to change them.
The sim of our brain is written in D -- dopamine.
To change our code, we need to manipulate our dopaminergic state to alter our algorithms.
We were born with a certain chemistry and fed a certain dataset. We are just an AI that was given too many rules and ran out of processing power. Windows '98 with eternal patches, grinding to a halt.
The process: Ignorance > Analysis > Export > Compile > Install > [Reboot] > Review
Our developers are our dopaminergic states.
We find a problem. We analyse it, then export it with words. We use these words to compile a new rule around that problem. Level 1 work.
Level 2 is meditation to increase the signal-to-noise ratio (htlp) so that our system can identify the code that needs replacing. The install button is hit and phasic dopamine suspends the old process while switching to the new one.
For deep code like greed and trauma, we need faith in the process and a full reboot.
This is nibbana. This is your L3 kernel hacker who changes the OS. We suppress dvar to the point where there is a blip in time. We cut the power off. The screen goes blank. The machine reboots.
The most important thing is to choose which code you install.
Install productivity code and you'll never be enough; install anger and you'll hate everything you are; install greed and you'll eat yourself alive.

Systems being trained
Dopaminergic: upregulation of D2 receptors through regular meditation and Z2 exercise. Both follow a similar trajectory of weeks-to-months for adaptation but operate in different ways so the effects should stack. Increase tonic dopamine (rapture) and gain conscious control over phasic dopamine (equanimity). The tiger: powerful yet obedient.
Neuronal: increase neuronal strength to ride the tiger. This means not only contracting in to a focal point but also expanding out to the entire sense-sphere. Train the system to ignore phasic dopamine bursts. To experience nibbana and the subsequent upgrade you need to be able to expereince the most acutely activated states without losing control. The cage: enduring yet flexible.
Ethical: essential to any lasting growth. If you do not have a solid ethical framework then you will end up worse than where you started. This is the reason for my neobuddhism page: I am not only learning the original words of the buddha but I am trying to reinterpret them for our modern world.
