Before you attempt this I must once again stress the importance of having a solid moral compass which does not contradict the basic laws of life: everything will decay and change and die. This is how you make peace with that undeniable fact.
This is a global consolidation of your neural network and you cannot just decide to induce a scientific eureka. Your entire view of the world will be rewritten.
Whatever code you lay now will form the foundation of the rest of your life.
Please. For your own sake. Listen to the teachings of the Buddha or my own [neobuddhism] summaries. Your new external world will reflect your internal world back at you. Be the change you want to see.
Make sure you feel love and equanimity.
This process can be used for eureka moments, spiritual awakenings and trauma therapy. I think it is indiscriminate so you get all three at once, like it or not.
So.
First up you need to [consolidate minima] in writing and review them on an ongoing basis throughout this process. This is the code that you are optimising.
You need to also import positive code in the form of [neobuddhism] or similar. Ensure that you weight your own wellbeing as 1 or you will wind up sacrificing yourself in one way or another.
Then it’s a case of manipulating your neurotransmitters.
The basic process lined out by the Buddha is to proceed through the jhānas. This involves a sequential manipulation of norepinephrine (down), tonic dopamine (up), serotonin (up). The tried and tested approach is to sit and focus on your breath for 30 years but this is a bit boring so I optimised it.
Norepinephrine will lower when you are in a safe environment but I personally used guanfacine to achieve this. If you can achieve it without pharmaceuticals then please do: the more personal control you have over the process, the better.
The first step is to lower your overall dopaminergic volatility through several weeks of self regulation as laid out in the [selfregulation] pages. Once you are stable you can proceed to the actual induction. During this period of regulation you want to be constantly consolidating minima and laying positive code.
The litmus test for stability is: can you stay in a sitting meditation through the lowest of lows, the anstiest of ansties and the highest of highs? If not, continue building your sustained attentional capacity through meditation and focus.
The next step is to get intentional and elevate your tonic dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine will enable you to potentiate new attractor states in your brain (create optimised algorithms) and serotonin will enable these algorithms to bridge minima by increasing neuroplasticity and availability of BDNF.
There are many approaches you can use but the process will be iterative. The things you will feel during the process are laid out in [themap]. You will feel a physical pressure or electricity in the cranium as you near the point of global consolidation. It is worth stressing that you *cannot* decide how these minima will be bridged. Your only job is to run each individual minima to conclusion and then achieve the appropriate brain state to bridge them.
This brain state is called: equanimity.
You do not ‘force’ this through. You cannot. Trying to force it through would increase phasic dopamine, blocking the process. All you do it follow the program and trust the results. In buddhist terms you are aiming for the 4th jhāna, which is where NE is low, DA is high, 5HT is high, and all are stable.
You can use the turbo sessions on the bike to prime the system but I found that the final flip was almost always triggered using a combination of hot bath, cold exposure, meditation, movement, music and surrender.
1 - hot bath with vocalisation
this increases tonic dopamine and serotonin, and the vocalisation increases blood flow in the cranium
2 - cold shower or plunge
this rapidly increases tonic dopamine circa 200%
this further increases tonic dopamine; as dopamine stabilises in the elevated state it also increases serotonin
4 - movement
the body stores the somatic charge of all this deep learning so you will find yourself twitching and jerking. Embrace this but do not try to induce it
5 - music
introduced at the end, music and dance or instinctive movement provides a rapid boost in phasic dopamine which is the final push necessary for bridging the new attractor states in your neural network
I will let the scientists measure all these neurotransmitters once they catch up. It shouldn’t be long if they start inducing their own eureka moments :p
It is *incredibly* important that you surrender to this process and realise that you are *not* the one inducing it. A confluence of events called ‘life’ has led you to this point and there could be no other outcome outside of you sitting there observing your consciousness wrap and fold. None of this was your doing.
You are simply stopping struggling. You are stopping holding onto your suffering and the noise in your brain. You are allowing yourself to escape the looped thoughts of pain and victimisation and greed and letting yourself heal.
The final step can only be taken by you and you will instinctively know what is the right approach. Follow your gut. At the final hurdle, throw everything you have learned out the window and just do what feels right for you in that moment. Only you can ever know your system, and your system is different to mine. Use your body - you needn't just sit there like a monk. But make sure you sit down when you feel the cascade coming.
In order to achieve a full enlightenment and a full flushing of minima you will need to do this multiple times. The first time will be the most destabilising and challenging. After that the process will largely run itself.
Be aware that once you start this process you *cannot stop it*.
The path will walk itself, as they say in buddhism. If you do not need release from your suffering, think long and hard about whether you want to take that first step because the process is challenging and terrifying. It is also the way to liberation for any neurodivergent mind that is trapped in the agony of a lifetime of thought-feeling-loops. You will know if this is necessary for you.
Once you have initiated the process you will be on a rollercoaster of altered states. This is unavoidable because of the levels of neuroplasticity involved.
I highly recommend having the [welcome] note bookmarked for when you get confused, or writing your own equivalent. I spent a lot of time wondering if I was dead or if I had gone insane. The world was full of glory and light and the pain I had known my entire life was barely a memory. I cannot describe the relief, but it was terrifying in equal measure.
Ensure that you have a safe and supportive environment when you do this, and make sure you have a small number of anchors which are important to you. These can be people, things, behaviours. Mine were walking and ice cream, some meteorites I bought online, and my family. These will form the basis of your new life.
Do not consume any alcohol, neuroplasticity-suppressing drugs, dopaminergic drugs or caffein in the immediate run-up or cool-down. A little cannabis on the day could help but only if you haven’t touched it for a long time. Once your neural network starts to settle I think that moderate caffein intake can expedite the process, but the safest bet is none at all.
This is - make no mistake - a radical reprogramming of your mind. It is not without its risks. You must be extremely careful with what you put into your brain in both the run-up to and the cool-down from consolidation.
You must build a [scaffold] you are able to commit to completely and ensure that it is a scaffold based on morality and love.
If your scaffold is built on greed and self-interest then you will eat yourself alive and will be reborn in hell.
The Buddha said exactly the same thing. Beings are reborn based on their actions and intentions. If your intention is to ‘get ahead’ then… I cannot describe how much pain you will cause yourself through undertaking this process.
Your intention *must* be to purify yourself of [greed] and [ill-will].
Please, please read the nikayas. I spent 6 months listening to the middle length discourses of the Buddha every night as I was falling asleep. Once my current [export] is over, I will begin listening to them again. I recommend that you do the same.
Remember: the Buddhas can only point the way. You alone must strive.
Good luck, and see you on the other side.
